A Symphony in Stone celebrates Glasgow’s stunning architecture and cityscape. The film shows how the city’s rapid growth and wealth creation brought about innovation in city planning, architecture and design. Featuring interviews with key experts including John Hume, aerial photography and archive footage are used to explore the work of famous architects including Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson, Charles Wilson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Narrated by Bill Paterson, the film is produced by Tony Burton, Director of the Glasgow-based Planning Exchange Foundation and directed by Matthew Cowan of the Glasgow film company, Production Attic. The music was specially composed by Lliam Paterson, and Gavin Stamp, the renowned architectural historian makes his final contribution to the film before his untimely death. “The best and most inspiring film about Glasgow historically, socially and architecturally that I have ever seen.”
